Blume ’19, Skagerlind ’14 & James ’14 Awarded Scholastic National Gold Medals in Arts & Writing

2013-Scholastic-Awards-550x203Three Newark Academy students were awarded Scholastic National Gold Medals: James Blume ’19 for Flash Fiction (“Are Rabbit Feet Really Lucky?”), Greta Skagerlind ’14 for Design (“Cut & Dry) and Brendan James ’14 for Photography (“Everglades Anhinga“). National recognition is awarded to the top 1% of the over 200,000 works submitted. Their work will be displayed at the “Art.Write.Now” National Exhibit in NYC for three weeks following an award ceremony on June 6, 2014 at Carnegie Hall. You can read the short story by James Blume in the display case outside the English Office. Congratulations James, Greta and Brendan!

    I believe these 3 are NA’s first ever national Gold Medalists for the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. However, the Awards are almost a century old, so we can’t be sure that there is not an undocumented history of previous winners. Nevertheless, these 2 seniors & 1 7th grader make their mark on NA history! Congrats to them.
