Ember: A Journal of Luminous Things

Ember is a journal of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction for all age groups. Submissions for and by readers aged 10 to 18 are strongly encouraged. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis.

New Moon Girls Magazine

New Moon is written by and for girls age 8–15. Articles and stories should be 600–1200 words and poetry should be one page or less. Check the magazine for upcoming themes: you have a better chance of being accepted if your work fits with their future plans. Include your full name and address, as well as a parental consent form, which can be found on the website. All work is considered for both the website and the print magazine.

Scholastic Really Great Outdoors Contest

For Grades 6-8: The Really Great Outdoors Contest invites you to design and/or draw a nature space for your community. Explain what elements they need in their space, the purpose of those elements, and how people will enjoy it. Each entry must be no more than three pages and includes the student’s name, grade, school, state, teacher name, and teacher email. Grand Prize: $2,500.

Skipping Stones: An International Multicultural Magazine

Skipping Stones Magazine focuses on culture and the environment. If you’re a writer aged 7 to 18, send prose of up to 1000 words and poems up to 30 lines via snail mail to editor@skippingstones.org. Include your name, age, and address as well as a cover letter including such things as your cultural background, the languages you speak or write, what is important to you, and your dreams and visions for the future. Feel free to include artwork and illustrations.

Stone Soup

Stone Soup is made up of stories, poems, book reviews, and art by young people up to age 13.
