The Soldiers in the Night

The soft lifeless snow packed down with every step they take.
Changing colors.
From a beautiful soft white,
To a darkening hard grey.
Their boots imprint the ground as they march.
Step by step in the cold winter night.
Their bodies covered in snow,
Their arms and feet freezing with every moment.
They look down to see children smiling and hugging them,
No longer cold,
No longer freezing.
Thanks to those soldiers in the night.
