"Self(ie) Portrain" collage

“Self(ie) Portrait” collage

“This piece was inspired by today’s selfie culture, which many consider to be an obsession with physical appearance in magazines and media. Therefore, I chose to used pieces of fashion magazines to make up the self-portrait. I decided to make it as self-portrait since I am  a teenage girl who sees the effects of media firsthand.”

"Open-Minded" mixed media

“Open-Minded” mixed media

“This mixed media piece demonstrates how thoughts rather than physical appearance make up a person. I chose to draw the face as a raw skull in black and white to show that every person is the same underneath, but ideas are unique.”

“Shh” photography

“These photographs are meant to evoke how societal expectations and restraints silence young women. I chose to use my younger sisters as subjects since they are such important girls in my life.” ~ Hannah Tarnow
