The Blue Marble Review is a free quarterly online journal for young writers ages 13-20.  Its name is inspired by the view of earth as seen from the Apollo 17 spacecraft. Cliché Teen Journal

The Cliché Teen is an online literary journal displaying selected pieces of work by young writers and artists from the ages of 13 to 19. The Cliché Teen Journal‘s goal is to break the cliché teen stereotype that many teens despise being labeled under. Founded 2019. ** The Concord Review

The Concord Review publishes “exemplary history essays by high school students in the English-speaking world” and is the only quarterly journal to publish the academic history papers of secondary students. Students may submit essays on any historical topic as long as they are the sole author and have completed the essay before finishing secondary school. LIGHT

LIGHT (Leaders Igniting Generational Healing & Transformation) publishes letters, short fiction, poetry, and more on the topic of public health. * Lip Magazine

Lip Magazine is an independent magazine for young women that aims to provide intelligent, thoughtful content. It publishes articles including news, culture, opinion, and reviews. Founded 2013. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis.

** The Louisville Review

The Louisville Review accepts submissions of previously unpublished poetry from students in grades K-12 for its “Cornerstone” section. It seeks writing that looks for fresh ways to recreate scenes and feelings. Honest emotion and original imagery are more important to a poem than rhyming and big topics—such as life, moralizing, and other abstractions. Founded 1976. Submission deadline: February 5, 2022.

* Mad & Moonly

An offshoot of Alexandria Quarterly, Mad & Moonly publishes creative work by teens ages 13–17. Founded 2014. Submissions temporarily closed.

The Milking Cat

The Milking Cat is an online humor magazine that publishes news articles, fiction, plays, and screenplays by teens. Founded 2018. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis.

Navigating the Maze is an annual poetry anthology by teens. Founded 1999. Submission deadline: TBA.

** New York Times – Student Opinion

Daily questions posed by New York Times editors allow students ages 13-19 to reflect on current events. Comments need not be formal or polished; instead, students are encouraged to “use these forums to hone their voices, ideas and opinions.” New prompts posted daily.

** One Teen Story

One Teen Story publishes writers ages 13-19. Short stories should be 2,000–4,500 words and be the writer’s own original, unpublished work. Previously published stories and stories forthcoming at other publications cannot be considered. Writers are compensated $500. Founded 2002. Submission deadline: November 19, 2022.

** PANK

PANK Magazine, “a place inhabited by contradiction, quirk and startling anomaly,” invites writers and artists under the age of 18 to submit fiction, poetry, nonfiction, comics, spoken word recordings and more to their Future Fridays series. Founded 2006. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis.

Paper Crane Journal

** Hippocampus Magazine

Hippocampus Magazine is an exclusively online publication set out to entertain, educate and engage writers and readers of creative nonfiction. Press Pause

Press Pause accepts submissions of writing in any genre. Although the magazine primarily publishes adults, it features at least one writer under the age of 18 in each issue. Founded 2019. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis.

** SUN Magazine “Readers Write”

Readers Write asks readers to address subjects on which they’re the only authorities. Topics are intentionally broad in order to give room for expression. Voyage

Voyage publishes short-form YA fiction and nonfiction by emerging and established writers. Founded 2020. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis.

** Whitefish Review

Whitefish Review accepts submissions of prose and poetry. Although it primarily publishes adults, submissions from young writers are welcomed. No submission fee for young writers. Founded 2007. Submission periods: July 1–September 30; January 1–March 31.

The Young Poets Network is a UK site that lists upcoming contests and magazine calls for submission. Some of the listings are for UK residents only, but many are international. The site allows you to filter your search by age range and type of market.
